Flaming Gorge Canyon
Up through the stratified layers
Heading north out of Nine Mile Canyon, we passed through the sights of Vernal, Utah, including a concrete apatosaurus in a bikini - quite an obscene sight for a town like Vernal. It had looked like rain for more of the drive, but we enjoyed some sun and flyfishing on the Green River.
All the campgrounds were closed, which means you get your pick of the sites if you don't mind carrying your stove for a few feet. Although it got dark quickly (too long on the river) we were able to set up camp just as the sun set, blasting the distant mountains with light. Not a bad place to rest your head. There were lots of hunters out, so we did our best to scare off the deer. One guy took his rifle to an overlook - perhaps he wanted to shoot the view?

Finally, back through mountains turning the fall colors of box cars for lunch and some Moose Drool rum-running in Evanston, WY. The standard post-camping meal of onion rings (most important), strawberry milkshake (slightly less important when it's 40 degrees outside, and burgers was provided courtesy of the dog, Wally. Wally did not get a Wally Burger, not even a Wally Jr.
